Press Release: A Thing Of The Past Or Merely In Need Of An Extreme Makeover?

The vast majority of PR professionals will agree that a press release is currently the foundation for any PR campaign. However, in a time when news is broken first on Twitter, we must beg the question of how relevant the press release is to a rapidly changing news cycle and a constantly ravenous reader base.

Journalists are doing their best to keep up with an audience that is hungry for more content (with a constantly shrinking attention span) and in turn PR agencies are trying to keep up. In a few years, we suspect most PR professionals will have a tough time making a case for the traditional press release in such a media environment. So how has the press release morphed over the past few years and where can we see it go?

It is remarkable that since the conception of the press release by Ivy Lee in 1906, its format has changed minimally, if at all. Most PR agencies stick to the tried and tested formula of headline, sub heading, body and boiler plate. With the advent of e-mail and social media, press release distribution might have changed, but the format itself has not. We suspect, however, that this will change very soon due to the following indicators:

Get ahead of the competition – Add SEO tactics to your press release

Considering that *more than 2000 press releases are distributed by the five major wire services in the USA, it is no surprise that press releases are a major component of any company’s SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy.

So if your company hasn’t gotten on the press release SEO bandwagon, you should strongly consider it. Here are a few tips to incorporate SEO into your press releases.

(One point to clarify is that SEO for press releases is not to increase the search ranking of your release but of your landing page and/or specific product pages.)

Keywords: Keywords are essentially the search terms that someone would use to find your press release or product page. It is important to pick the most relevant keywords for your press release.

• Pick keywords that are not too generic but not too technical. For example, if you were a wine company it would be somewhat useless to have “wine” as your target keyword but something specific like “California pinot” might be a better choice

5 Ways to Create Conversations on your Facebook page

Three years ago, brands were having hushed, frantic discussions about what the deal was with this “Web 2.0” business.

Two years ago, most major brands realized social media wasn’t going anywhere. Some of the brave ones jumped head first into the deep waters of Facebook branding.

A year ago, most brands reluctantly signed up to Facebook (many of them clueless as to why they were even there).

And today, everyone (and their mother) has a Facebook page.

The competition for eyeballs and clicks is as fierce as ever. So how do smaller brands garner followers and how do larger brands keep up momentum?

It is a fact that the most popular Facebook pages are ones that generate conversations. These conversations can be about a brand, about a product, about current events or about Lady Gaga. Frankly, it’s shocking to see how many companies have Facebook fan pages that are all “Me! Me! Me!” Breaking News: Your followers are not on your Facebook page to find out more about you. They either want to interact with your brand or with other followers and if you don’t give them an avenue for either, they WILL stop following you.

Here are a few ways to increase conversations on your site. Some of them are common sense, some a little whacky.

1. Ask for opinions about your brand/ product: People love to give their opinion…on anything and everything. It makes them feel important. So incorporating a survey or asking your followers to let them know what their favorite flavor of your soda is will generate a great amount of interest. The most important thing to remember here is to be as specific as possible in your status by giving options. Generic or vague questions rarely get answered.

Anatomy of a perfect Tweet

With 460,000 new Twitter accounts being created everyday (yes, you read that number right), having your voice heard on the 2nd most popular social media platform is hard enough. Getting your followers to actually interact with your tweet is an even more monstrous task, as brands and people flock to make their mark on the Twitter-verse.

Today, the best brands on Twitter have the ability to draft interesting, amusing tweets that scream for attention. The value of a tweet is not in how many eyeballs see it but how many people find it worthy enough to interact with. By interact, we mean, how many people do one of the following:

• Retweet your tweet

• Click on the link in your tweet

• Follows you as a result of reading the tweet

• Favorites your tweet

So what kinds of tweets pack the most power into 140 characters?

X Marks the Spot: SpiderTech™ Introduces “X” Shape Kinesiology Tape Application

TORONTO– SpiderTech,™ the leading provider of specialized kinesiology taping products that naturally reduce pain and restore strength and mobility to injured and sore muscles, has introduced the new “X Spider,” an easy-to-use therapeutic treatment that can be applied by anyone.

The X pattern is a shape most commonly cut from kinesiology tape rolls by chiropractors, therapists, sports medicine practitioners and other healthcare providers, but doesn’t require the same degree of training and precision. With the X Spider, anyone can easily peel off the back of the pre-cut shape and apply it where there’s soreness or pain in the same way as ice or a bandage, but with greater therapeutic benefits.

“The X Spider make this long-established therapy more accessible to both practitioners and individual patients,” said SpiderTech’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kevin Jardine, DC, Med.Ac, CSCS, ART, CSTI. “We’ve simplified the use and application of kinesiology tape to make it more readily accessible.”

Kinesiology tape—based on the principles of kinesiology, the science of human movement—has been widely used for 30 years in both professional sports and professional medicine. SpiderTech has reinvented the use of kinesiology tape with X and other innovative Pre-Cut Spiders. Dr. Jardine created the various shapes so that they don’t have to be individually cut.

SpiderTech’s drug-free therapeutic solution uses tape to naturally stimulate the nervous system through skin contact in order to restore strength and mobility to injured and sore muscles. Unlike a bandage, it encourages faster recovery, relieves pain and reduces swelling. The product also prevents future injury through enhancing necessary natural healing mechanisms. The tape is manufactured to be the same weight, thickness, and elasticity as skin and is therefore able to integrate with the body’s sensory system naturally.

SpiderTech’s X Spider can provide pain relief and improved mobility to everyone from competitive runners, cyclists, golfers, tennis players and triathletes, to anyone with lower back, knee, neck and other common pains.

“The X Spider is a first step on the way to healing,” said Dr. Jardine. “If an individual using the X Spider finds they are experiencing, for example, a 50 percent recovery rate, that other 50 percent can be achieved by seeing a licensed SpiderTech healthcare provider trained to use our advanced therapy solutions.”

Visit www.SpiderTech.com for more information on the X Spider and SpiderTech’s other pre-cut products, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter. SpiderTech can be purchased at Amazon.com.
