It’s a Wrap: June 14th is last day of 08/09 season at Mammoth Mountain
After 8 months and nearly 480 inches of snow, Old Man Winter is finally packing it in for a summer vacation. This Sunday, June 14th will be the final day of skiing and snowboarding at Mammoth Mountain. Luckily winter is giving way to summer and plenty of outdoor activities, including golf, fishing, hiking and soon, the opening of the Mountain Bike park.

Bicyclists “Ride for Hope” in a 3,250-Mile Journey Across America
Ride For Hope Coast to Coast,” a bicycle journey to raise awareness and funds for the millions of children orphaned by and those infected with HIV and AIDS in sub-Sahara Africa, is set to embark upon an inspirational event that will bring together 15 riders who will participate in a relay from Sausalito, California to Annapolis, Maryland June 7 – 17, 2009.
The 10-day ride, to benefit Christ’s Hope International, will encompass a total of 3,250 miles. The amateur riders will pass through 11 cities across the U.S. with a goal to raise money for the ministries to orphaned and vulnerable children and others infected and affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa.
As the riders pass through the 11 cities—Sausalito, Sparks, Nevada; Delta, Utah; Grand Junction and Denver, Colorado; Lincoln, Nebraska; Iowa City, Iowa; Chicago, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., and Annapolis—local residents of each town are invited to join the bikers in their cause by participating in the nightly celebration cookouts sponsored by local churches. In Wheaton, Illinois a Half-Century Ride (50 miles) will also be held for local residents to join with the riders.
The “Ride For Hope” is the inspiration of Tim Patton of Fair Oaks, California, who decided he needed to do something important to celebrate turning 50. After serving in Namibia with Christ’s Hope International in 2006, he was moved to do something to bring awareness about the devastation of AIDS and the orphans and vulnerable children it leaves in its wake.
“Every day, 4,300 people die from AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa,” said Patton. “It’s also projected there will be 40 million orphans in sub-Sahara Africa by 2015 and right now more than 12 million children on that continent have lost at least one parent to AIDs. I witnessed firsthand the suffering that these statistics represent, and organizing the ‘Ride For Hope’ is my way of trying to help these children in need.”
An avid cyclist, Patton united his love of bicycling with his desire to help others less fortunate when he recruited 14 other bicyclists to participate in the “Ride For Hope.” The fourteen other riders who will join Patton are Steve Caldwell, Collie Christensen, Rikki Christensen, Donald Dalizu, Terry Ervin, John Evans, Garrett Hankins, Philip Hankins, Palmer Lee, Brett Martin, Michael O’Keefe, Timothy Rust, Kelvin Tse and Lee Wiegand.
People who want to support the riders in their cause can get involved by sponsoring a rider, joining a support team, riding in one of the local Half-Century rides, and practice hospitality by welcoming the teams and ambassadors to each town. Mammoth’s Value Pass Sells Out Early
Mammoth Mountain, CA – After opening up sales of Mammoth Value Passes (MVP) to the public on April 1, Mammoth is proud to announce that MVPs have sold out a full week ahead of schedule. MVPs were designed to be on sale for the month of April or until a set number of passes were sold, whichever came first.
“We saw incredible demand for this product this April,” said Joani Lynch, Director of Communications for Mammoth Mountain. “This is a good indicator for Mammoth next season. It shows people are still committed to investing in their recreation time and plan to spend more of it here,” continued Lynch.
Originally created in 1999 to provide the most affordable access possible to the slopes of Mammoth and June Mountains, resort operators began limiting the number of MVP passes it would sell in 2005. Since then, the pass has only been available to the individuals who purchased that season. Due to the changing economy and attrition in the program over the years, Mammoth announced it would open the pass sales up to any purchaser this season giving sales a boost. This limited quantity of passes were sold out in 23 days.
Mammoth froze pricing on the popular MVP (Mammoth Value Pass) for the 2009/2010 winter season. Priced at $576 for adults, the MVP is valid for unlimited skiing and riding at both Mammoth and June Mountains the entire 2009/2010 season with no blackouts or restrictions. MVP holders receive other benefits throughout the season including, but not limited to, discounts on lodging, private events featuring early lift access on select days and the opportunity to get discount lift tickets for friends.
New MVP passholders get an added value by being able to use their pass now to enjoy the rest of Mammoth’s long season. The Ski Area plans to stay open through Memorial Day for skiing and riding if not longer, conditions permitting.
